Common Causes of Nail Pain After a Pedicure

Nail Pain After Pedicure: Causes, Treatment, and Prevention

Getting a pedicure should be relaxing – but sometimes, discomfort or nail pain after pedicure can leave you wondering what went wrong. While mild soreness may be temporary, certain types of pain can signal irritation or infection. Let’s explore the main causes, treatments, and how to avoid nail pain after your next salon visit.

Common Causes of Nail Pain After a Pedicure

  1. Cuticle Damage: Over-trimming or aggressive cuticle pushing can cause redness, swelling, or tenderness around the nail bed.
  2. Ingrown Toenails: Cutting nails too short or at an angle can cause the edges to grow into the skin, leading to sharp pain and inflammation.
  3. Infection (Paronychia): If tools aren’t properly sanitized, bacteria or fungi can enter small cuts, causing throbbing pain or pus.
  4. Pressure from Tight Shoes: Wearing tight shoes right after a pedicure can press on the nail and cause discomfort or bruising.
  5. Allergic Reactions: Some nail products, such as polish or adhesives, may trigger skin irritation or mild allergic reactions.

How to Relieve Nail Pain After Pedicure

If your toes feel sore, try these safe remedies:

  • Soak in Warm Salt Water: Reduces swelling and disinfects the area.
  • Apply Antiseptic or Antibiotic Cream: Helps prevent infection in small cuts.
  • Keep Feet Clean and Dry: Avoid moisture buildup that can worsen irritation.
  • Wear Open-Toe Shoes: Reduces pressure and allows air circulation.
  • Avoid Picking or Cutting the Area: Let your skin and nails heal naturally.

If the pain persists beyond 2-3 days, or you notice severe swelling, pus, or redness, consult a healthcare provider – it might be an infection that requires treatment.

Finally found my go-to nail salon. Entire experience was fantastic from the moment I walked in the door. Front desk staff is kind and helpful, gave me the menus and a cocktail! Thom, who did my nails did more than any other spot has ever offered me for a refill. Soaked and cut my cuticles, made sure there were no strays and finished with warm, collagen gloves. Loved it! Customer for life.Updated: Highly recommend Toran and Mandy as well. Excellent all around!

The place was very clean. Danny did a great job just getting nail polish off my toes and he made sure my fingernails had enough sparkle that I wanted for my green sparkle nails.
